Healthcare providers should promote physical activity in all adults according to their capabilities. In addition to healthy bones, regular physical activity is beneficial in maintaining an optimum body weight. It also improves muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness. It keeps metabolic parameters in check. Resistance training and weight-bearing impact activities have been demonstrated to be especially beneficial to skeletal health. Examples of bone-healthy physical activities include walking, jogging, running, jumping, climbing stairs, lifting weights, racquet sports, soccer, dancing, and hiking.

Rickets affects children and osteomalacia affects adults. These bone diseases are relatively uncommon in the United States because they can be easily prevented by ensuring adequate vitamin D in the body. However, understanding these diseases is important because children and adults who develop rickets and osteomalacia suffer devastating consequences.

ARRT* CE and Structured Education / CQR

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT*) has implemented a system of Structured Education and Continuing Qualification Requirements (CQR). If you were certified as a Radiologic Technologist before January 1, 2011, the new requirements will not apply to you. However, technologists who first earned their certificate on or after this date have a license that is time-limited to 10 years. Renewing certification for an additional 10 years requires completion of the CQR process. Also, moving forward as of now, R.T.’s who pursue additional credentials using the ARRT’s* postprimary pathway will need CE credits based on specific subjects. This is known as structured education.
